KHDA requirements vary according to the dance discipline.

Dancers new to pointe work must not buy
shoes in advance of the start of term.
Ballet
3 year olds
– White short sleeve body suit and
white skirt, pink tights
or socks and
ballet or
gymnastic slippers.
Dance Readiness Pre Primary, Primary Ballet– Pink regulation short sleeve body suit and
pink skirt, pink tights and ballet
slippers.
Grades 1 and 2
Ballet
– Pink sleeveless pinch front regulation body suit, pink
convertible tights and
ballet
slippers, black low heeled RAD character shoes (black or
neutral sole)and
character skirt
Grades 3-5
– Light purple/periwinkle/lilac Ainslee square neck or
spaghetti strap (#102 or 101 styles), (check The

convertible tights and
ballet
slippers, black moderate heeled RAD character shoes
(black or neutral sole)and
character skirt, performance skirt.
No split soles or
canvas ballet slippers for examinations but they are
permitted for training. Navy
blue pinch front regulation body suit
for examinations
Grades 6-8 – Black spaghetti strap leotard, Selected
colour body suit and ¾ length chiffon skirt (colour
decided on an individual class basis) for exam . Pink
ballet slippers, RAD or leather character shoes and
character skirt. Silk scarf required to be ordered
from the Royal Academy of Dance Canada.
Intermediate Foundation/Teen Ballet – Light Purple/Periwnkle/lilac Ainslee square neck or spaghetti strap leotard, Black plain
spaghetti strap exam leotard, pink convertible tights,
canvas shoes are allowed for training but not
examinations, pink full
sole ballet shoe with ribbons for exams, pointe shoes
Intermediate to Advanced
Ballet - Black spaghetti strap exam leotard, pink tights, soft pointe shoes, pointe shoes
Modern/Contemporary
– Black body suit and footless
tights, metatarsal socks(optional)
